We logged into the bank but the corrected balances didn’t take effect. So, he likely could tell that the bank was fake. But he still put up the updating screen.

Jeff: “Are you crazy or what?”

 

Jeff: “Don’t make any jokes with me. The behavior you are doing is unfair.”

After logging into her bank, the updating screen came up on her computer. It was the same screen that the scammers used to buy giftcards on Amazon. So, when he asked her to login again, she didn’t want to for fear that he might be trying to steal from her.

 

Rather: “You sound like a broken man, Jeff.”

 

Jeff became a thoroughly defeated man. He bailed and booped.

He put us on hold and we booped. He called back. He said that Nancy entered the wrong amount in the refund field. We were transferred back to Jennifer, then back to Ronald.

 

Ronald told her to make a wire transfer of $40,800 and talk to him when she gets the receipt.

During this call, we heard some details in the background that gave us a way to try to intervene and stop a scam. An exceptional translator in chat was able to hear a zip code, which gave us the general location of the victim. In real time, a stream viewer stepped up to call the local (to the victim) Walmart and CVS and warn them that someone might be on the way to buy giftcards for scammers. Both stores said that they would be vigilant about anybody trying to buy giftcards and alert the victim to the scam. What a great save!
