JW vs Shane William (Shame) & Adam Smith – McAfee
Refund Amount: $299.99
Scam Amount: $10,000.00
Zipcode 94118
Inv #TJKLE-752263
Shane had difficulty talking with JW, so we were transferred to someone else with no warning. He didn’t identify himself. She filled out the refund form as instructed.
He told her not to mumble a thing while filling out the form. She asked for clarification on the transaction number and he yelled at her not to read out the number on a recorded line! He finally identified himself as Adam. The initial attempt at a refund didn’t work, so he was talking with his billing team. He called us from a different line for no apparent reason. He said we would receive our refund from the World Bank.
He said that the refund couldn’t go through because she had a personal checking account and they could only refund business accounts. In order to make the refund go through, she had to go to the banking portal. JW had some difficulty listening to what he was saying without interrupting with questions or clarification.
Her screen was suddenly black with the green lettering saying, “Connected to Secure Server.” He gave her the reference code #ARB7891290 for her to use anytime she needs to talk about this case and needs to reach him.
She was connected to the World Bank Online Portal (also known as the command prompt). The portal verified her name but struggled with her zipcode. She kept pressing enter and didn’t listen when he told her not to. Then, she misspelled McAfee and he misspelled ERROR. The 9 key must have stuck when she was entering her refund amount. The maximum amount allowed of $10,000.00 was transferred to her checking account.
She was trying to delete the 9s, but “they just kept coming.”
His boss was very angry on him. “Are you listening to me? Am I audible to you?!”
The fact that she wasn’t listening to him was the reason they were in a problem at this point…
It was requested that she say this for the recording:
Yes, Adam, I am going to help return the extra funds that I have received from the worldwide portal that I received in the first place. Anything you need me to do, you let me know and I will do anything in my power to fix it.
She was told that they would charge 17% if the bank came to know about the blunder. She should let Adam handle it. He would see what he could do.
Adam told his bosses that she was ready to return the funds. It would be handled easily without penalties or hassle. They should go with the personal option, where the bank would only know she had a refund of $299.99 and not come to know about the extra money.
There is back and forth discussion about the World Bank talking to the Chase and understanding what the bank will come to know and when she will see her $299.99 refund.
Adam was getting upset. He would make her understand. He explained that the amount into her account was $10,000. It should have been $299.99, which they round to $300.00. So, she had to return $9,700 to the World Bank.
JW questioned again what was happening with the World Bank and the amounts.
Adam: This is your problem…you don’t LISTEN! If you let me talk, I can make you understand!
JW just wanted to know if he would be fixing it or not. She did not want to pay a penalty. Adam would tell her the way.
Adam became frustrated with her when she questioned if the World Bank would be contacting her.
Adam: World Bank is not a person! It doesn’t talk to people. I will do that.
She was happy he had a solution. She wondered if she could start making purchases in the next 2-3 hours.
Adam: For God’s sake! Listen to ME!
She offered again to call her bank. He told her she didn’t need to call her bank.
There were 2 options. The first option was the Bitcoin option. She didn’t know about Bitcoin.
He told her it is a digital currency. Had she ever heard of Elon Musk? The other second option was UPS. She wasn’t sure how Elon Musk could help with the post office. Again, he would explain everything.
First, he was proposing the Bitcoin option. She inquired if it was risky. He told her it was an investment.
JS: Well, if we can be to Mars by 2025… also, that is my favorite candy as well.
Adam: Bitcoin is just a way to return the money to the World Bank.
He wanted her to open her PlayStore application. But she didn’t know what that was. Her problem was that she did not LISTEN. She needed to wait.
He asked her the type of phone she has. It was not a bastard phone… it is a Nokia. He told her to come to her computer screen.
Adam: The AI server is moving your cursor. The Artificial Intelligence server will explain everything on the notepad.
$10,000-$300=$9,700 to return to World Bank
She questioned that explanation and if she was losing $300.
Adam: Just shut up. Don’t say anything for 10 minutes!
JW: Okay
She was to go to the bank and she needed to tell the teller that she wanted to withdraw $9700.00 in cash from her account.
There was a lengthy conversation as to if she should tell her bank teller what is going on. She wasn’t to mention anything about the refund or the World Bank or they would contact their manager and then the Chairman and then they would contact the World Bank.
She didn’t want to be penalized. He said, “We will both have a good life going on with ourselves.”
Adam: Do you have anything in mind as to why you are withdrawing $9,700?
JW: For Adam Smith Badge MBCD1290, his phone # is….. and my reference code is ARB7891290.
Adam: Do NOT say anything about the World Bank or refund. Do not mention anyone. Forget what has happened now.
JW: But I still have the $9700.
He said that the amount to withdraw was $9700. If they asked, she should give them the explanation that her house was being renovated and she needed to pay her laborers (neighbors) in cash. That is the reason she needed this cash.
He said that it was not neighbors, it was laborers. Forget that… just say workers. Her neighbors were not the workers.
He typed on the notepad:
My house is getting renovated.
I need to pay my workers in cash.
That’s the reason I am getting this much money.
Now he wanted to role play. He would be Adam, the bank teller. She would be herself, JW.
She wanted to understand the situation.
JW: What kind of bank is it? Is it a normal bank?
They practiced with him starting out saying, “Next.”
And then she stepped forward to request her withdrawal of funds. He asked how much she wanted. She told the whole story of the money and what it was for.
He asked if she wanted to use her debit card. (JW explained to Adam Smith that she actually didn’t bring her debit card… she left it on her nightstand.)
There was confusion as to when they were in character and when they were not in character as they banter back and forth. Adam didn’t think she did a very good job. She needed to start at the top again. He said she sounded like a robot. She needed to memorize the lines and then throw the paper. But she shouldn’t say them unless they ask her why she wanted the money.
She was to get her shoes on and head to the bank in her car. She needed her driver’s license and her plastic debit card from the Chase Bank. She did inquire if it would be a problem doing renovations as she rents the house.
She needed to 1) drive very carefully and 2) once she reached the parking lot of the bank, let him know. He again questioned her about what she would say to the bank. He seemed to have very little confidence in her. She told him she still had his badge # and reference number. He told her to “Put it in the dash boat.”
She went into her bank and got the money withdrawn without them asking her any questions.
He told her that she needed to come back home. But first, she needed to take $100 (later changed to $200 and then an added $300 on for a total of $500 extra for her) and go purchase a pair of sneakers that are in a box. Then come home. Many questions were asked about the sneakers… she also explained to him that her right foot is a size 15 and her left foot is a 12… so she had to buy two pairs of sneakers. She sometimes had to saw them off and make like a hub cap for the foot. He was covering the cost of two pair. He would be on the line.
Boop. She hung up. He called back.
Did she have to buy sneakers… could she get sunglasses… like the aviators Tom Cruise wears? No, it had to be sneakers.
He was after both the sneakers AND the box. He didn’t want anything to do with the empty refrigerator box she has had in her garage for 3 years.
She went to the Pika-Shoe Store and bought a pair of black generic shoes. That was fine, as Adam likes black. She spent just over $70.00.
Adam told her to count out aloud $5,000 cash in 100s.
JW: Will you count with me?
Adam: No count for yourself.
She was to take the $5,000 and roll it up and put it inside the right shoe. Then she needed to take the $4,700 and take out $200 for herself.
JW: Are you kidding me? You are a sweetheart!
Adam: I am a generous person my love. I am a nice guy.
JW: I thought you were a butt nugget.
Adam: That is for your compensation.
He had her count out the remaining $4,500. “You need to count it LOUD.” She then had to roll up that cash and put it in the left shoe. Now, she needed to take a pair of clean socks and put one in each shoe.
She hadn’t done laundry and would need to use her dirty socks. He told her that she didn’t need to apologize. She warned that they did not smell pretty.
A discussion was had as to whether she had anything to wrap the box. She had nothing. Toilet paper would make it look bad.
He gave her the name of Joey Williams and an address in Georgia on the notepad. He asked her for her state. She was confused if he was questioning her state of mind or the state that she lives in… confusion, exhaustion, etc. Oh, he wanted the state she lives in…California.
She warned him that the money wasn’t going to smell very good when he got it, due to the smelly socks she had to use. She said that it gave a whole new meaning to “dirty money.”
He instructed her that she needed to tell UPS that she wanted overnight delivery and there is to be no signature required. She got confused on the two things and he shouts “Listen to me…Do not talk!”
She would call him back once she had shipped off the parcel. Maybe he could shoot her a text and let her know how he liked the shoes, if they fit, and if they were to his fashion. They were from a local store, Pika-Shoe, so maybe he had one around his area he could exchange if they don’t fit.
JW told him that overnight is so expensive. The normal way is fine. Patience goes a long way in life. He told her to, “Shut up and listen. Do it by the end of today.”
He needed the package by tomorrow. He now added another $300 extra to get this to happen. She was so excited… now $500 for her Ray Bans!
She went into the UPS store and got one of the UPS boxes that would fit the shoe box. She was to get a receipt. She was to say it was a present for her brother.
Adam was holding on the line. She told the UPS person that she was trying to get this parcel shipped off to Georgia. It needed to be overnight delivery and no signature required. She gave the UPS person the address. She said that it was shoes, socks, and money rolled in the shoes.
Adam started shouting into the phone, “Are you there?!”
JW continued talking to the UPS person. “Let me find out. Guess I won’t be able to ship it.”
She told Adam that she was told it is illegal to ship money in a parcel. She would have to abort the mission!
Adam told her to take the box and come out of the store. Do not do anything. JW thought maybe she could try bribing the UPS person with $50-$100 to still ship it. Adam told her no, that it is illegal.
The UPS person said, “Maybe you can find another way,” can be heard in the background.
Adam told her to come home. She said, maybe she should call her bank.
Adam: Shut up! Do not use your brain… use my brain!
JW told him that she was going to go and get some lunch and coffee before returning home. Then she would call him back. He said, “You cannot…” BOOP. JW hung up in his face!
