Rinoa Poison: Scambaiter

All of the scammers from yesterday have called many times since yesterday. We called one of the numbers. David Johnson from “the FBI” answered. He confirmed some of the details of what happened yesterday. He said he was going to look into things and call us back.

He booped. David is working together with Real John from yesterday.

Adam was able to connect their computers, without deviating from the script one bit. His brain couldn’t function quickly enough to improvise.

 

We were transferred to Ryan Bedore. Ryan’s father is not well and is in Australia. Mr. Bidet is not yet in Australia and looks forward to being there soon to help his father, who may need dialysis soon. He’s in the US now.

 

Ryan had some difficulty in explaining to LR what she needed to do. He said something about “cert if it cakes” but didn’t really say why they were needed.

 

LR felt that it was ridiculous that she should need to go to a store instead of just reversing the transaction or transferring the money. He kept telling her to go to the Love Store (meaning Lowe’s).

 

Mr. Bidet likes French fries and mayonnaise. But he doesn’t eat outside food because he goes to the gym.

 

LR insisted that she speak to Mr. Bidet’s manager. “Sounds like it would stop a lot of things. You don’t know what you’re doing.”

 

Mr. Bidet tried to return to the conversation, but LR wouldn’t let him get a word in before interrupting.

 

LR: “You are, for lack of better words, an idiot.”

Mr. Bidet: “OK. Thank you.”

LR: “Get your manager. The adults need to talk now.”

Mr. Bidet: “Thank you. Of course.”

LR: “Now, go play in the other room.”

 

We were transferred to senior manager, David Chamber.

 

David attempted to explain things to LR and tried to be assertive with her. It didn’t go very well.

 

LR explained ways that David was missing great business opportunities, poking holes in his giftcard strategy.

 

LR’s husband is a lawyer, so David’s threats of a lawsuit aren’t of any concern to her.

 

LR: “I’m in a state where I’m protected against your slapstick laws. You’re not gonna try to slap me with a law. OK? You’re not gonna hit me with this slap lawsuit. OK? You’re not gonna take me to the courthouse.”

 

David became unpleasant and LR wouldn’t allow it.

 

LR: “If you want your money, you’ll talk to me like a reasonable human being and not some idiot. OK? Don’t be barking like a dog.”

 

LR: “I’m not asking you to be my server because, if you’ve ever seen an episode of Gilmore Girls, you’ll be rotated out really quickly.”

 

LR: “I don’t have empty threats. You do.”

 

When his threats and intimidation attempts didn’t work, he bailed and booped.

We called FBI Agent David Johnson back.           

Timer started at 4hr 16min 14sec.

LR said that he had told us to call back in an hour or so and we said we’d call back after a meeting. (This was not actually discussed at all.)

 

David was amazed to learn that the scammers had used the same GeekSquad page that the FBI uses! He thought that the scammers must have hacked the FBI’s GeekSquad page. He told LR to download TeamViewer instead.

 

David thought that Eddie Brown was just trying to “many plate you.”

 

David: “I need to surveillance your IP first.”

 

David poked through LR’s computer.

 

LR: “You’re a nosy little agent, aren’t ya?”

 

David scanned LR’s IP address and found a “killer’s IP address” but access was denied. The tracking led to Dayton, Ohio!!! But David said that it wasn’t Dayton, Ohio. But LR said that they were, and he agreed.

 

LR: “I could probably do your job better than you at this point.”

 

LR: “I’m ready to file charges. They tried to steal my money. He’s also killed someone.”

 

LR thought that she could help with the investigation. She called Eddie Brown but we couldn’t hear him right away. David was still on the call, listening to her speaking with Eddie, but David wouldn’t speak. They were both from the same call center.

 

LR: “I need to know, were you trying to steal my money and did you kill someone?”

Eddie: “Yes. And I will kill you.”

 

LR: “I’m speaking to an FBI agent. They’re gonna put you behind the bars, Eddie.”

 

Eddie started speaking directly to David but David wouldn’t respond.

 

LR: “You’re a good kid. You don’t have to go down this bad path.”

 

David booped, then called back. Eddie booped.

 

While David was on the phone, we tried to call Eddie Brown and James Anderson answered. LR told James that David was an FBI agent.

 

LR: “He’s found a hacker that has committed a murder.”

 

We booped James. David wouldn’t say that he was on the phone. We called David back.

 

LR: “David, you coward! What are you doing? I’m trying to get the killer on the phone and you go quiet. Why does that cat get your tongue? Come on, David! You gotta be serious about catching this guy! I’ve got him on the phone and you won’t say anything?”

 

We booped. Rinoa said that he ended the TeamViewer session.

 

Fake John called us. He said that LR was very wrong in believing that David was an FBI agent. Fake John tried to shame LR for falling for such a ruse.

 

Rinoa was able to merge the calls again and had David and Fake John talking to each other. Our amazing in-chat translators told us what the scammers were saying in Hindi. Fake John said to talk to Eddie and transferred our call to him. Eddie was speaking when the call got disconnected. David booped. Eddie called back and said that David was a bad person. David called back and Rinoa connected the calls again. Eddie said that LR’s money in the bank was not secure. While talking to Eddie, Fake John started writing notes on her computer, telling her to call him. Rinoa merged the calls again. Fake John booped.

 

Eddie told LR to withdraw all her money and deposit it into a secure virtual investment account that he would create for her. LR said she would take some notes. While Eddie was waiting, Rinoa merged the calls again to add Fake John. The scammers spoke to each other for just a moment before Fake John booped. While Eddie was trying to convince LR to follow his advice, Fake John was writing notes to her on her computer. Eddie told her to get ready to go to the bank to withdraw the money.

 

Rinoa merged the calls again and the scammers spoke to each other for a moment. Eddie told LR to go to a branch of the Chase Bank that is different from the one she visited yesterday. Rinoa juggled and merged calls several more times. She somehow ended up back on the phone with David. He said that all the other people were hackers and told her to hang up on all of the others. Rinoa merged the calls again and the scammers spoke with each other for a while. David told her to hang up on Eddie. We spoke with Eddie again and David booped.

 

Fake John called again. He said to ignore Eddie’s call and to go back into her house. While Fake John was speaking, Eddie spoke to LR. He then booped. Fake John asked LR to connect using AnyDesk on her phone. He said that he was going to secure her cellphone for her. She said she didn’t want to do that. He then asked her to download TextNow. When she questioned that, he asked her to change her phone number. LR said that she would call and try to get a second number. We booped in his face to call our service provider.

 

We called Eddie back. She told him that Fake John wanted her to change her number and Eddie said that was a good thing. We booped in his face and answered David’s call. She asked him how they are going to catch these guys. He told her not to change her phone number.

 

David said they had to catch the bad guys redhanded. David asked LR to go to a nearby Walmart. LR texted a password to David so that she would always know that she was speaking to him. David666 is his password. LR told him to tell her the password. “I have swollen balls” is the password he needs to say. We booped David so that he could call us back and say the password.

 

We answered Fake John’s call but he didn’t want to tell her the password. He finally did but was very unhappy that he had to say it instead of texting it. We booped in his face.

 

We called David back but he didn’t answer. David called us back. He changed “I have swollen balls” to “you have swollen balls.” We told him we were in the car and he said to tell him when we reached the Walmart parking lot. He said he changed the password because he didn’t like it. David told her to come to her real voice and said he knew what she was doing. LR started talking about the significance of crossing the line to a life goal of reaching the Walmart parking lot. She said she might take some detours. We booped on him.

 

We called Fake John back. She said that David had sent her a text message asking her why he had swollen balls. He told her to restart her computer. He asked her to connect the computers again. But first, LR wanted to change their passwords. He didn’t want to change passwords. We booped in his face. He called right back.

 

Her new password is: “Do the task. You will free.”

Fake John’s new password is: “I have swollen balls because I scratch them all day.”

 

Rinoa merged the calls one last time and then booped in their face right after they spoke to each other. She got Fake John to say the password one last time before booping him, saying we’d call him back once the computer had rebooted.

 

David sent a text saying that he knows she’s a YouTuber but then asked for photos of Walmart giftcards, etc.
