JW vs. David – Norton/Amazon & Noel (Nile) Rosengard & Robert Coston & Eric Foster — FTC
Refund Amount: $649.99 Charge for Annual Renewal of Lifelock Protection
JW received an email for a charge of $649.99 for renewal of Lifelock protection. She wanted to stop the charge.
David told her that someone was using her identity. He would contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and file a case against the purchase so that, in the future, she would not be held responsible. He said her FTC case is #FTC141095.
We were transferred to FTC Officer Noel (pronounced Nile) Rosengard, Federal Badge #9560D04. He said he wanted her to listen very carefully to what he had to say as the line is monitored by the Federal Department of Justice as verbal evidence that she was claiming to be a victim of identity theft.
Noel said that there were several bank accounts showing for her name that were bogus:
Bank of America
Chase
Navy Federal Credit Union
Amazon business account
Purchases were being made on Amazon and sent to other addresses. There was a Norton Lifelock account opened in her name for $649.99. She said it wasn’t her.
She was not to disclose to a third person any of this information, as they didn’t know who using her information.
Noel said he needed to ask her a series of questions:
1) What is her zip code?
2) Date of Birth?
3) Last 4 digits of SSN?
4) When was the last time she was to The Texas, New York, Mexico, Columbia or Russia?
(She was to The Texas about 5-6 years ago) but she has no connections to those places.
5) Have you ever shared your information to any loan company or credit card company?
(She said probably only to Amazon… they might have had a data breach?)
6) Have you ever lost your wallet?
(She said a couple of months ago she did, but later found it in the washer with the clothes.)
7) Do you have a suspect of who might have made a fraud?
(Not that she is aware of… maybe her sister but that would be extreme even for her sister.
Or maybe the neighbor who puts their trash out early… maybe they snooped in her trash.)
8) What do you do for your living?
(She is a receptionist for a law firm, but her passion is wedding photography.)
9) Do you live by yourself?
(She is living with 2 flatmates plus a rat infestation that the landlord does nothing about.)
Noel said that as she was calling herself a victim of identity theft, he would complete the Verification Form I94B:
1) What is your address currently?
2) How many vehicles are under your name?
(She has a blue car as well as a golf cart that is collecting dust.)
3) What bank accounts do you have under your name?
This was a very lengthy conversation. JW ended up having to repeat herself multiple times before NR documented the information correctly:
D Bank – Checking $2,000 and Savings $8,000
D Bank Line of Credit – $50,000
Chase Bank Amazon Credit Card- $10,000 limit
Other assets: Red Golf Cart from 1943 used for some special crossing of seas with a jet pack
4) Do you have a 401K, money market, IRA under your name?
(She has a 401K but doesn’t have access to the money of course)
5) Do you have any crypto currency?
(Lengthy conversation was had about how she did purchase some crypto currency but the dogecoin took a massive dump and is worthless. Her crypto currency was probably worth less than $1.00.)
JW then said, “What about the money under my mattress? I have $5,000 in the Bank of Mattress.” He wondered if it was savings or checking. She told him the savings in the Bank of Mattress was a rainy-day fund. She also had Funko pop figure collectables that were probably worth thousands.
Noel said that he would submit the verification report form to his Higher Restitution Officer, Robert Coston. He said his name was like “Boston” but only with a “C.” Robert Coston would help her to secure her identity.
Robert Coston came on the line and inquired if Officer Rosengard explained everything.
He asked her how he could help her today. He seemed clueless as to what was happening.
JW explained that she had a Norton charge of $649.99 and wanted it cleared off her account and she didn’t want to pay for it. Basically, she said that, once upon a time, she had no charge and now she did, of $649.99 after the email charge notice came onto her Amazon account. She provided Mr. Coston with her case #FTC141095.
Robert did not seem to be aware of the details of her case.
JW: He just walked away and gave you the phone? Well, we went over my assets and who my flatmates are. He said crimes were in the Texas, Mexico, Russia. He asked about my blue car and my credit card account limits.
Robert was upset with JW because she didn’t know what had been explained to her by Noel. He transferred her BACK to Noel Rosengard.
She was accused of not listening to Noel and that she had been transferred to the FTC because of fraud and identify theft. But she was still concerned about that $649.99 charge. He got even more upset that that was not what they are concerned about… they were concerned about the bogus accounts in her name in the various banks mentioned. Didn’t she realize that her identity had been hacked? She needed to stop the fraud.
JW: How do we stop it?
Noel: I have filled out the verification form to know your real bank information versus the bogus information. We will cross check it. Please cooperate with Mr. Robert Coston as he is going to take care of the matter.
He asked if JW had ever been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or something like that?
JW: Not that I know of. No professional diagnosis. Do you think I should? I mean I can make a doctor’s appointment… might not be a bad idea.
Noel: How far is your bank?
JW: Not too far…I could call them.
Noel: No, no, no, no… Miss W. Do not call them.
JW: I can call them. I know them personally. They were nice enough to call and ask if I was at a certain place and time once for a purchase. I had a nice 2½-hour conversation with the bank person.
BOOP! Noel hung up! (They were getting madder and madder!)
They called back:
Noel: We got disconnected. Let me have a word with my senior.
Noel (Nile) came back on the line and said that Robert Coston said that he could continue. JW was concerned that he knew what he is doing. She wanted this fraud case to be in the best of hands and that, if Noel didn’t know what he is doing, he better consult Robert Coston.
Noel: I have been working here 15+ years. I will consult with Robert if needed. Now we need to safeguard your bank funds. We need to suspend…
JW: Cancel my accounts?
Noel: No, no, no, no. We have to safeguard your bank funds and get a new bank account.
They would cancel her account and open a new account in the same bank. He asked how far the bank was. She said it was 10 minutes. The Chase Bank was like 5 minutes but she didn’t know anyone at the Chase Bank. She knew more people at the D Bank, like the river of life… spiritual animals. He asked how far the Bank of Mattress was.
JW: Oh, less than a minute!
He wanted her to go to the Bank of Mattress and leave $500 in there, so take out $4500. He asked if she had a bank card for the Bank of Mattress.
JW: How do you apply for that?
He told her that he wanted to connect her laptop to their secure server.
She had several Amazon windows open and didn’t want to shut them. She was having trouble getting her Google Chrome cleared.
Boop! He rage quit!
JW got a call back from the Senior Restitution Officer with the FTC, Eric Foster. JW told him she was talking to Noel Rosengard.
Eric directed her to type a URL in her browser.
She saw, “Welcome Secure Support.” She tried to enter her FTC141095 case number as a code but it didn’t work. She saw something was downloading.
Eric: Since you have medical issues… on your computer, open your bank. There are suspicious bank accounts in your name.
JW: Yes, I have a $649.99 for Lifelock charge as well as $359.99 charge for an Upper Crust Wifi Toaster.
Eric: I have connected your computer now with our server. We will run a verification check of your Amazon account to our server.
JW: Is the $649.99 getting put back?
Eric: Yes, I am running a scan on your computer. The culprit appears to be from Texas, Mexico, Columbia, or Russia. Your identity is compromised as well as 98.9% of your financial data. There is a trojan detected. Your IP address is hacked.
He explained that the Tiny Banker Trojan (also called Tinba) was a malware program that steals users’ sensitive information.
She was asking questions and he said, “Log into your account… don’t overtalk.”
Boop! They hung up.
They called back.
Eric: We got disconnected. Your computer is compromised.
JW: Well, I am being careful about my information… I don’t go around advertising it to the world!
Eric: Your computer is under surveillance of our server. The poser has access. We want to put your money in an escrow account for tonight to help… to park funds for the day to another financial institution.
JW: Am I getting a new Social Security number and bank account? I was thinking of buying a house and will all my information transfer to a new number?
JW: What are you thankful for? I hope your Thanksgiving goes well. Any plans for Thanksgiving?
Eric: My brother in NY is coming tonight.
JW: Hopefully the airport goes well.
Eric: I cannot discuss personal information with you.
JW: Oh, did you find any more information?
JW: Eric?
Robert: It’s Robert. (Eric had apparently given up.) I am trying to help you to get your bank funds secure and park your funds. Tomorrow someone will come with your new Social Security number. Who are your flatmates? Have you known them long?
JW: Yes, for a while. But I am going to get together with my family.
NOTE: Rinoa received bank information for an account in the UK. They tried to transfer $21,456.00 to the account. Rinoa passed the information on to be reported. At the end of the stream, she was notified that the account was shut down!
JW: I have a blue update screen. Should I restart my computer? I was holding the button down and the computer is shutting down.
Robert: Cancel it.
JW: Do you want me turn my computer back on?
Robert: Yes.
He asked her to restart her computer and tell him her password. She asked if that was safe to do, what with the hackers and everything. He wanted her to log in to the D Bank account.
Robert: Can you physically go to the bank?
JW: Do you want me to call the bank and ask them about the case?
Robert: Listen to me and follow instructions.
JW: What is your badge number? I can have them call you. You really don’t want to be walking around without your badge.
Robert: My badge number is #FTC77946
JW: I will call my bank and call you back.
BOOP! JW hung up on them!
They called back and were upset she disconnected.
Robert: If you call your bank, your account will be frozen for the next 30 days.
JW: If I can still use my Chase credit card, that would be okay.
Robert: Do you have an issue remembering things? What have we learned?
JW: That I have a case #FTC141095 for victim identity case and I am waiting for you to fix on your end. Do you need the bank number? There is a Tinba problem and 98.9% of my data is compromised.
Robert: Yes, a misuse of identity. We are here to help fix the problem.
JW: Is it narrowed down?
Robert: We are going to put $10,000 in a secure account.
JW: My mattress account is super secure. There is no one getting that over my dead body
Robert: We have to secure the money you withdraw from your D account and put in a safe account. We will have you withdraw the funds and go to an authorized machine and put that money in. Take your driver license, debit card and go to your car and go to D Bank.
JW: I also have a golf cart. What am I going for? I tell them Robert Coston told me to safeguard my money? What’s the account information to transfer the money to? Or do I just say it needs to be entered into a government account? Can I have them call you directly? Is it to open a gag order… an account for the government?
BOOP! They hung up. They were fed up.
